DRAXIS Smart City DSS

Tool description

DRAXIS Smart City DSS is a state-of-the-art geospatial intelligence platform designed for smart cities. It offers innovative tools and services that combine data from multiple sources, such as internet of things (IoT), satellite, open source, geospatial, and citizen data, into a single, integrated solution.

Using advanced technologies like Apache Kafka and Apache Spark, the platform ensures seamless data entry, storage, and processing. Full interoperability is achieved through Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) protocols and REST APIs, enabling real-time visualization and smart decision-making.

Objectives

  • Support smart, data-driven urban planning
  • Visualize and manage complex, real-time city data
  • Enhance service delivery through AI and machine learning
  • Simulate heatwave and microclimate effects (in collaboration with UCCRN)

Expected Impact

  • Enhanced planning capacity: Enables cities to elevate their planning capacity
  • Improved public services: Helps municipalities provide new services to citizens
  • Sustainable urban development: Supports inclusive, resilient, and sustainable neighborhood development
  • Greener mobility solutions: Contributes to eco-friendly mobility and improved accessibility

How the tool supports cities' pathways towards climate action?

DRAXIS Smart City DSS plays a key role in Thessaloniki, specifically within the Dioikitirio district. Developed in close collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and MDAT, early mock-up screens were created to demonstrate how urban data can be effectively visualized and utilized in planning processes. Its advanced technological features, including IoT integration, real-time data processing, geospatial intelligence, and machine learning, have directly contributed to the development of the pilot prototype. These capabilities enable real-time data collection and simulation, enhance the testing and evaluation of smart urban solutions, and offer user-friendly interfaces designed to support informed decision-making by local authorities.
