The UP2030 Horizon Europe (HE) project took center stage at the recent Energy Efficiency Workshop hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality—an important step in the city's journey toward climate neutrality by 2030 under the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.
At the event, our project partner Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi / Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) proudly presented the Urban Building Energy Modeling (UBEM) tool, developed within the framework of the UP2030 project. The presentation was delivered by Prof. Ipek Gursel Dino, who emphasized the role of digital urban-scale tools in shaping effective decarbonization strategies.
The UBEM tool, developed collaboratively by ODTÜ-GÜNAM and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), provides a data-driven platform for modeling energy use in urban buildings—supporting informed policy decisions and sustainable urban transformation. Its demonstration to a room of key stakeholders, including the Mayor of Izmir, highlights the growing importance of local innovation and collaboration in achieving climate targets.
We extend our sincere thanks to our partners and stakeholders for their continued commitment to promoting the goals of the UP2030 project and for championing practical solutions for a greener, smarter future.
