From Green Week to the Green and Landscape Plan: Milan strengthens its path within UP2030

Between September 18 and 22, Milan celebrated its annual Green Week, showcasing initiatives dedicated to green spaces and the environment.

The opening event focused on the presentation of the process launched for the drafting of the Green and Landscape Plan of the Municipality of Milan: an opportunity to highlight how urban green spaces provide multiple ecosystem services, and therefore benefits for the community, and how the new Plan aims to enhance and increase them, in continuity with the work carried out by the Municipality within the UP2030 project.

Through thematic working groups, it was possible to discuss with strategic stakeholders, like public organizations, park authorities, professional associations and civil society organizations, to explore the resources and challenges of the city’s green spaces and to collect proposals for actions on biodiversity, climate adaptation, and the use of green areas.

The initiative represented an important step in consolidating the results achieved by the Municipality of Milan within the UP2030 project, while also contributing to the launch of an internal debate on the opportunity to integrate ecosystem services into urban planning, as a strategic tool to make the city more sustainable and resilient.
